Futures Committee

In 2007, Governor Ted Strickland, members of the Ohio General Assembly, and the developmental disabilities community created the MRDD Futures Committee. Among other tasks, the Committee was charged to review the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of current uses of funding for the state's developmental disabilities system. The 22-member Committee was comprised of individuals and families who receive services; legislators; representatives of advocacy, labor, and professional organizations; and state agencies.  Committee members, representing diverse roles and perspectives, reached consensus and adopted 31 recommendations published in the MRDD Futures Committee Final Report which was issued in March 2008.  The Committee’s Final Report serves as a system-wide vision and long-range strategic plan for Ohio ’s developmental disabilities service delivery system.

On March 28, 2008 a final report was delivered to Governor Strickland and the General Assembly. This report set forth positive steps to improve services, processes, and supports for individuals and families.
