A MESSAGE FROM THE CIO

When I arrived at the Department, I sat down with Director Martin and discussed a vision of what Ohio’s DD system needed in order to function more efficiently.  The Department’s goals: “creating a less complex service delivery system”, “providing quality outcomes”, “being good stewards of limited resources” – they touched on many aspects of our community, but all with the same intended purpose:  To meet our mission to improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families.

These goals also had another thing in common – technology was going to play a pivotal role in accomplishing them.  One way to look at it is that we needed to be able to more effectively and consistently manage a $1 billion Medicaid program that serves 26,000 Ohioans.  It was going to take a significant overhaul of our IT system to get there.

With that as the backdrop, I am extremely excited about what our IT Division has been able to accomplish and proud to tell you that our DODD IT Division was recognized by TechColumbus at their annual Innovation Awards in February.  This annual event recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievement of Central Ohio’s technology organizations and business leaders.  The team was nominated for 2 awards, Innovation in Non-Profit Service Delivery which focused on the MSS/CPT system and Outstanding Technology Team which focused on the IT Technology team turnaround as it relates to new processes, virtual infrastructure, new applications and service delivery.  In both categories the team was semi-finalists and in the Innovation in Non-Profit Service Delivery were finalist (top 3)!  IT could not have accomplished this alone.  The Medicaid Business Area were strong partners with us in the development, training and successful deployment of the MSS/CPT system.  The IT team and the business areas worked together to not only meet the challenge but exceed expectations.

These awards are confirmations that we are on the right track, we are succeeding and hard work does pay off.
